What Is Tennis?
- Tennis is a game played with rackets by two or four players who hit a ball back and forth over a net that divides the court.
- Tennis is an individual sport and therefore requires different skills and techniques in different aspects of the game.
- Tennis is played on a tennis court just as football is played on a pitch.
On Our First Lesson:
On our first BTEC tennis lesson, we learnt about the vital basics of tennis such as Serving Techniques and Grips.
- The Basic Serve.
- The Basic Eastern Forehand.
- The Basic Two-handed Backhand.
- The Chopper Grip.
- The Eastern Grip.
The Chopper Grip:
This is the way to hold the racket when performing the serve, volley, sliced backhand and smash, Its known as the Chopper Grip because its the way you would hold an axe, To find this grip, you would have to hold the racket as if you were using the edge of the racket frame as an axe.

During Our Second Lesson:
During our second lesson we went into depth in and practised the different grips and serves in games. We also learnt about recovery, techniques in recovery are side-steps to cover up steps when your opponent is about to score point(s).
Physical Education: Football
In BTEC football, we began with the basics of passing and control, we went into practice of passing and controlling the ball with the inner section of the foot, we also practiced dribbling with the ball and trying to use our Non-Dominant foot.
The dribbling practice was to make sure we could successfully get pass defenders and the effect of using the non-dominant foot as well as the dominant foot was to enable us to defenders in either way (left or right). After learning these techniques, during the second lesson, we went into a game where we had to distribute to ball to both wings and out before we were alot to score, this was to make sure space is used or found and to also attract the defenders. We also practised lifting to ball by hitting beneath it and following through which also kept it at a steady pace.![](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/blogger_img_proxy/AEn0k_ur2XbgF2zq3mwj0WgmdOHU6oqnKBgtixyJp0IgAK_CY9szBhMXlZKnIm4tLjWIW-2CruASbIWjZN-RltSI0bstCSLoaXDneI8dz5l3P3R2DrC33t94yD_ngps8U6_BojSMlu3x99ULISUFLUccqQyoiKM1xt2enNwBoNrAa5I=s0-d)
However, we also practised a defensive technique to prevent the offence from succeeding, the technique consists of showing the attacker a side and slightly backing away using side steps with bent knees, this was to ensure that if the attacker trys to out run the defender, the defender could easily change direction, chase, and put a clean tackle if needed. The effect of bent knees are firstly to ensure change of direction is easy and secondly to accelerate if the attacker gets away from the defender.
